Registry status, active site, and international patient acceptance: three different things

Listed in a registry, active at a site, and accepting international patients are separate statuses. One does not prove the others, so each must be confirmed separately.

Medical review status

This guide has not been reviewed by a doctor and does not replace the explanation of the medical team caring for the patient. It is written to help prepare questions and records, not to decide treatment. Not a diagnosis or final medical recommendation. Requires physician review.

30-second answer

The key point

Start here

Listed in a registry, active at a site, and accepting international patients are separate statuses. One does not prove the others, so each must be confirmed separately.

This is an educational summary, not a diagnosis or final treatment recommendation.

Three different statuses

Keep these statuses separate when reading a clinical trial listing.

  • Registry status: whether the study is listed as recruiting.
  • Site status: whether a specific location is active and ready.
  • International access: whether patients from another country can be reviewed or accepted.

Why statuses can differ

A study can be recruiting overall while a specific site has not started, has paused, or has no international-patient pathway.

Insurance, monitoring, language, consent, and residency requirements can affect access even when the science looks relevant.

The overseas-care journey

The administrative sequence that often determines whether a plan can proceed.

This diagram explains the sequence of assessment and discussion. It is not treatment advice or an eligibility decision.

Explore facility capabilities
  1. Confirm the records are complete

Include translations when the destination facility requests them.

  2. Ask about international-patient intake

Confirm whether the case is accepted and through which service.

  3. Request a scheduling estimate

Scheduling usually starts after the file is confirmed complete.

  4. Check financing and travel documents

Including payer approval, visas, and companion requirements.

  5. Arrange language support

So your questions are conveyed fully during the consultation.

An overseas-care plan depends on records and scheduling, not luck.

How to confirm access

Ask the study site or official contact directly, and keep written responses when possible.

Do not treat a registry page, hospital reputation, or third-party post as proof of acceptance.

Questions to ask

The goal is to confirm the practical route before travel or document submission.

  • Is this site currently reviewing new patients for this trial?
  • Can patients from Indonesia or outside the country be reviewed?
  • What documents are required before review?
  • Which costs are covered by the trial and which are not?
