Advanced treatment

SBRT (stereotactic radiotherapy)

Highly targeted high-dose radiotherapy delivered in a small number of sessions to a small, well-defined target.

RadioterapiDraft, not yet medically reviewed

Not a diagnosis and not final medical advice. Must be reviewed by a doctor.

What is it?

SBRT delivers high doses per session with high precision so that surrounding healthy tissue is better protected.

Generally used on small targets, including limited lesions in the lungs, liver, bones, or brain with different technical terms.

The number of sessions is usually much less than conventional radiotherapy.

Precision imaging and an immobilization system are used to confirm the target position, then radiation is administered in high doses over several sessions.
How SBRT (stereotactic radiotherapy)

How it works

Precision imaging and an immobilization system are used to confirm the target position, then radiation is administered in high doses over several sessions.

Position in the treatment pathway: Often discussed in limited disease or a small number of lesions, including disease that has spread but is limited (oligometastatic).

Which cancers is it usually discussed for?

Usually considered

  • Lesions are limited in size with clear boundaries.
  • The number of lesions is small so that all targets can be treated.
  • Common conditions that allow undergoing sessions in a fixed position.

Usually not a candidate

  • The disease is very widespread.
  • Targets adjacent to vital structures without a margin of safety.

What is the process like?

  1. Preparation 1

    High resolution planning imaging.

  2. Preparation 2

Practice holding your breath when the target moves.

  3. Monitoring

Follow-up imaging to assess response and local control.

All preparation

  • High resolution planning imaging.
  • Practice holding your breath when the target moves.

All monitoring

  • Follow-up imaging to assess response and local control.

Risks and points to watch

Side-effect notes, not a complete list

This list covers categories commonly discussed. Individual risk is always assessed by the treating team.
  • Side effects are generally more limited than extensive radiotherapy.
  • Depending on the location, local complaints may appear such as coughing or chest wall pain.

Cost and access

Cost figures depend heavily on location, facility and payer. We do not show estimated figures on this page; what can be prepared first are the questions.

Providers and clinical trials

Access status not yet verified

Studies are filtered from the public registry. Site readiness and international patient acceptance still need confirmation before any travel is planned.

Questions for the doctor

  • How many lesions will be treated and why were these targets chosen?
  • What is the plan if new lesions appear in the future?
  • What is the risk to organs near the target?

Is SBRT (stereotactic radiotherapy) relevant for my case?

Ask for an initial review. We will explain which documents and markers need to be completed before discussion with a doctor.

  1. Upload reports

Photos or PDFs of pathology, biomarkers, imaging and treatment history.

  2. Case structured

Documents are turned into a structured case summary.

  3. Navigator review

A human navigator checks completeness before anything is shared.

  4. Provider review

With your consent, the case is discussed with providers for assessment and a written quote.
