MET
Other names: MET exon 14 skipping, MET amplification, MET exon 14
MET changes can be exon 14 skipping or amplification; the two are discussed differently in treatment planning.

Not a diagnosis and not final medical advice. Must be reviewed by a doctor.
Plain explanation
MET is a gene involved in cell growth signaling. Changes in this gene can make these signals uncontrollable. The type of change determines how the results are interpreted.
Clinical meaning
MET exon 14 skipping is generally discussed as a group that can be directed to MET inhibitors. MET amplification requires attention to the level of amplification and is often more complex, because it is also related to resistance.
Testing methods
- Next-generation sequencing (NGS)
A test that reads many genes from one tumour sample to find actionable changes.
- FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridisation)
A test that detects changes in the number or arrangement of genetic material in tumour cells.
- Liquid biopsy (ctDNA)
A blood test that looks for tumour genetic material to supplement or partly replace tissue testing.
A negative result does not always mean the marker is absent
Test sensitivity differs by sample type and method. Results need to be read together with the pathology report and clinical condition.
What needs verification
- Type of MET change and measurement value when there is amplification.
- Time of examination relative to previous therapy.
- Has the tumor been re-examined after progression?
- Availability of MET inhibitor drugs at destination facilities.
