NTRK
Other names: NTRK fusion, TRK fusion, NTRK1, NTRK2, NTRK3
NTRK fusion is very rare, but is a marker that can be discussed across cancer types.

Not a diagnosis and not final medical advice. Must be reviewed by a doctor.
Plain explanation
NTRK fusion is a change that combines the NTRK gene with another gene. Because it is rare, the examination is usually carried out as part of a wider panel.
Clinical meaning
NTRK fusions are tumor-agnostic: if discovered, this marker can form the basis of discussion of targeted therapy without depending on the organ of origin of the tumor.
Testing methods
- Next-generation sequencing (NGS)
A test that reads many genes from one tumour sample to find actionable changes.
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
A test that uses antibodies to mark specific proteins in tumour tissue.
- FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridisation)
A test that detects changes in the number or arrangement of genetic material in tumour cells.
A negative result does not always mean the marker is absent
Test sensitivity differs by sample type and method. Results need to be read together with the pathology report and clinical condition.
What needs verification
- Examination methods and types of fusion found.
- Does the panel used really cover NTRK1/2/3?
- Therapy history and current clinical conditions.
- Drug availability: often only through special routes or clinical trials.
