30-second answer

The key point

Start here

A trial abroad requires clarity on international acceptance, language and consent, stay permission, financing, and who monitors the patient during the study. Confirm all of this before travelling.

This is an educational summary, not a diagnosis or final treatment recommendation.

Confirm acceptance status

Recruiting in a registry does not prove that a foreign patient can be reviewed or enrolled.

Ask the site whether it is currently accepting international records for the study.

Language, consent, and monitoring

The patient must understand the consent process, visit schedule, safety reporting, and who to contact.

Language support should be confirmed before any travel decision.

Read one study step by step

A reading sequence that helps you assess a study page in a few minutes.

This diagram explains the sequence of assessment and discussion. It is not treatment advice or an eligibility decision.

Find clinical trials
  1. Read the title and phase

The phase indicates how far testing has progressed.

  2. Check the main criteria

The criteria define who may and may not participate.

  3. Compare them with your records

Note any criteria you cannot yet confirm.

  4. Contact the study centre

Only the study centre can assess eligibility.

  5. Follow the screening process

This includes additional tests and the consent explanation.

Read study criteria as a checklist, not as an assessment of your eligibility.

Travel and duration

The study schedule may require repeated visits or long stays.

  • How many visits are required in the first months?
  • Can any monitoring be done near home?
  • What happens if the patient cannot travel for a scheduled visit?

Financing and participant responsibilities

Study drugs or tests may be covered by the protocol, but that does not mean travel, accommodation, or all medical care is covered.

Ask for the cost split in writing before deciding.
