Advanced treatment
TCR-T (engineered T-cell receptor therapy)
Cell therapy that gives a patient's T cells a specific receptor so they can recognise fragments of tumour protein on the cell surface.

Not a diagnosis and not final medical advice. Must be reviewed by a doctor.
What is it?
Different from CAR-T which recognizes surface proteins, TCR-T recognizes pieces of protein displayed on HLA molecules.
Because it depends on HLA, matching the patient's HLA type is an important part of the initial assessment.
This approach is still in the clinical research phase for several types of solid tumors.
The patient's T cells are modified to carry receptors that recognize specific targets, expanded, then reinfused after preparatory therapy.
How it works
The patient's T cells are modified to carry receptors that recognize specific targets, expanded, then reinfused after preparatory therapy.
Position in the treatment pathway: Generally only through clinical trials, in diseases that have undergone standard therapy.

Which cancers is it usually discussed for?

Lymphoma
Lymphoma is a malignancy of the lymphatic system with many subtypes, and accurate pathological classification determines the direction of treatment.

Multiple Myeloma
Multiple myeloma is a malignancy of plasma cells in the bone marrow, with cytogenetic markers that matter when treatment strategy is considered.

Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is divided into non-small-cell and small-cell groups, and molecular markers strongly shape which treatment options are discussed.

Usually considered
- Suitable targets were found in the tumor and the patient's HLA type according to study requirements.
- Organ conditions that allow therapy and monitoring.
Usually not a candidate
- The HLA type does not match the study requirements.
- Medical conditions that make the risk unacceptable.
What is the process like?
Preparation 1
HLA type examination.
Preparation 2
Targeted examination of tumor tissue.
Preparation 3
Organ evaluation.
Monitoring
Close monitoring after infusion.
All preparation
- HLA type examination.
- Targeted examination of tumor tissue.
- Organ evaluation.
All monitoring
- Close monitoring after infusion.
- Monitoring of immune system related toxicities.
- Evaluate response.
Risks and points to watch
Side-effect notes, not a complete list
- Immune system related reactions may occur.
- Risk of cross-toxicity in normal tissues expressing similar targets.
What needs to be checked?

Next-generation sequencing (NGS)
A test that reads many genes from one tumour sample to find actionable changes.
View test
Tumour tissue biopsy
Collection of tumour tissue to confirm the diagnosis and provide material for further testing.
View test
Blood laboratory tests
Routine blood tests to assess general condition, organ function, and selected markers.

Cost and access
Cost figures depend heavily on location, facility and payer. We do not show estimated figures on this page; what can be prepared first are the questions.

Questions for the doctor
- What targets does it target and does my tumor express them?
- Does my HLA type match the study requirements?
- How is monitoring after infusion carried out?
